The rapid development of technology has been recognized to have helped a lot of human work. One progress that is felt is the ease of shopping. Only through clothing and food devices can easily be obtained without the need for a lot of energy.
However, this technological progress turned out to be inversely proportional to the benefits obtained by the body . According to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy , online shopping habits can weaken the muscles in the body. Even though increasing age, muscle strengthening is needed so that the body stays healthy. Online shopping offers convenience that makes a person do not do a lot of body movements.
Based on a survey of more than 2,000 people, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapyfound 24 percent of those aged 65 years and over admitted that they did not carry out muscle strengthening at all every week. This condition makes the elderly have an increased risk of falls and other health problems,
In fact, the National Health Service (NHS) recommends doing two muscle strengthening sessions in a week, such as exercising with weights or carrying heavy loads such as food. While for those aged 65 years and over, muscle strengthening can include activities that involve jumping or dancing.
Professor Karen Middleton, chief executive of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy , said: “Shopping online may be very easy but it makes us lose some of the methods that used to exist to strengthen our muscles. We also wait at home for items to be sent. In the past we will go out to buy it, “he said.
“This is not an argument against progress. This is only to show that maintaining strength and being active does not mean having to go to the gym , but we have to find ways to build it into our daily lives, “he added.
In addition, Middleton said, people should not think that being weaker is an inevitable part of increasing age. “When the guideline is set, it doesn’t mean you immediately lift weights at the gym. To get started, you can dig in the garden or simple weight lifting, “he said.
Train Muscle Strength
Meanwhile, The Center for Aging Better and Public Health England are conducting a review of the benefits of practicing muscle strength and balance for the elderly. Dr Justin Varney, Head of Adult Health in Public Health England , said that bones began to weaken at the end of their 20s and muscle mass would shrink from the age of 40, a condition that was exacerbated by musculoskeletal disorders which became the biggest cause of limited body movements.
“So it’s not just older people who need to act. Include bone and muscle strengthening and balancing activities in your daily routine and you will get benefits as you age, which will increase your chances of being free of chronic musculoskeletal diseases in your 40s, 50s and so on, “Varney said.
Data show, in the past two years, more than a quarter of British adults are 60 years old and nearly 40 percent of people aged 80 years report falling.
Meanwhile, Jess Kuehne the leader of the Physical Activity program at the Center for Ageing Better revealed: “We know that doing routine activities to strengthen muscles and improve balance can have a significant impact on your quality of life as you get older and reduce the risk of falls,” he said.
Online stress and shopping
Another study revealed that the body tends to need runaway as a way to divert stress. Eating more is one example of a habit that can be done when stressed . Not only eating, shopping online turns out to be included in the form of escape to relieve stress.
If you serve the desire to shop online, it is feared that monthly expenses or credit card bills will swell and this can certainly make you more exposed to stress.
Before deciding whether you are going to buy an item online or not, it’s a good idea to reconsider your main needs and check whether the item is easily available around your house, if indeed the item is around the residence and is the main requirement, avoid shopping through on line.
