Signs and Symptoms of Water Poisoning
When water poisoning causes your brain cells to swell, they suppress the inner surface of your skull, causing headaches, nausea, and vomiting.
Other symptoms include high blood pressure, diplopi (double vision), trembling, weakness in muscles, and difficulty breathing.
If too much water poisoning can actually lead to coma and death. The people who are most at risk of dying because of this problem are soldiers and athletes whose symptoms of water poisoning are often confused with dehydration, causing death after they try to “dry up again”.
How much amount of water intake is too much in the body?
That depends on two factors: kidney filtration capacity and the duration of time you have it.
First, a healthy human kidney can filter up to 1 liter of water every hour. So if you drink excess water will increase the risk of water poisoning. And this risk is higher for patients with chronic kidney disease or only with one functional kidney.
Also, the duration of time is very important. For example, drinking 10-20 liters of water in a few hours dramatically increases the risk of water poisoning. But not doing the same thing for 24 hours.
How much water should you drink?
This question does not have a one-size answer that is suitable for everyone. Instead, the amount of water you have to drink every day depends entirely on your physical condition, your unique medical condition, and your level of energy.
But if you want an average range, men should drink 3.7 liters of water every day and women should drink 2.7 liters of water.
